Popplewell Trophy 2019

Dave Amey, winner of the Popplewell Trophy 2019The winner of the Popplewell Trophy for the season 2018-19 is Dave Amey, from City of Salisbury A&RC. The citation from the Club Secretary says it all:

"Dave Amey has been managing cross country at City of Salisbury A&RC for over 60 years. Salisbury was one of the original clubs in the HXCL and aside from a couple of years absence have enjoyed the league considerably. Over the last couple of years there has been a big resurgence in XC in Salisbury and that has always been supported by Dave Amey. He has coached many a winner in the club over the years though we shouldn't forget he was once a fine runner himself. His current stable of runners includes national U15 Winner, Bea Woods.

"Now in his 80s, he never misses a fixture whatever the weather, is the stalwart of the team, has the brain of a twenty-year old and keeps everyone on their toes with his wisdom, wit and humour. He is the first to arrive and the last to leave every match. He amuses us all that he knows everybody and can retain every stat from his running career though I'm slightly suspicious he is getting faster as he is getting older.

"I'm yet to meet anyone young or old who doesn't like Dave. There is not a bigger promoter of cross country in the League than Dave so I will happily nominate him on behalf of the club."

Karen Mundell
Club Secretary, City of Salisbury A & RC

The League Committee are delighted to award Dave the Popplewell Trophy for the work he has done on behalf of his club over the years.

Important notice

In order to safeguard the health of league competitors, we request that details of any medical conditions (including asthma) should be submitted to the League for team members by the appropriate team manager for each club. This should preferably be done prior to the match but otherwise must be done on the day (but before the relevant race).

Registration of athletes

***UPDATE***

May I please remind Team Managers that lists of athletes for the Cross Country season 2019-20 should be being compiled and sent to Pam Bungay and Pam Rogers soon for checking and adding to our databases. As in the past we are happy to receive lists with additions sent as the season progresses. Some of you may not appreciate the amount of work that goes into the preparation of the results databases, so we would appreciate the lists sooner rather than later and especially not the night before the first fixture, or early on the morning of the first fixture.

I have prepared a new format, accessible below. Please also note that following the vote at the League AGM in June, the categories for the Veteran Women have changed. I would appreciate it if those categories could be made clear as I have had to amend my database to accommodate the changes.

Thanks.

Pam Rogers
Ladies Results Secretary

A reminder please that lists of competing athletes are needed for our records. We need to have correctly spelt names, dates of birth, age categories the athlete is running in and EA Registration Numbers for everyone intending to run for your club.

Also to remind clubs that they need to be affiliated to England Athletics before they can join the League.

On a personal note, a reminder about the Veteran age categories that we use (revised for 2019/2020):

  • Men:   M40, M50, M60 and M70
  • Women:   W40, W50, W60 and W70

In other words, ten year categories from when the athlete becomes a Veteran.

Thanks
Pam Rogers, Ladies results
